East Naples man in hospital after firework explodes in face

EAST NAPLES, Fla.- A 35-year-old man is in critical condition after fireworks exploded in his face on New Year’s Eve.

Emergency crews rushed to a home off Estey Avenue in East Naples after a 911 caller said a man was bleeding from his neck. The caller said William Naylor was lighting fireworks in a backyard when it exploded before he could move away.

Naylor was last listed in critical condition at Lee Memorial Hospital.

State law outlaws fireworks, other than sparklers on the state Fire Marshal’s approved list, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office said.

Naylor is currently suing two Collier County deputies, claiming he was shoved and beaten against a wall while an inmate at the Collier County jail.
