CHARLOTTE HARBOR, Fla.- Charlotte County is gaining national attention through a local boat captain who’s sharing his love for fishing with the world.

“It’s a project that we’ve been working on for sometime and we put a lot of hard work into it,” said Mike Slattery, host of “The Charlotte Harbor Chronicles,” a reality show three years in the making.

The show airs on the Sportsman Channel and is the first reality show of its kind to feature Charlotte County.

“This series is to put our proverbial sign out that that we are open for business in the format of what is destination fishing,” said Slattery.

Captain Slattery says, it’s not a ‘how to fish’ show, but it’s a show that features the adventures of fishing in Charlotte Harbor.

“Those chronicles are stories we encounter day in and day out and just being guides just going through our daily format,” said Slattery.

Slattery teamed up with Palm Island Resort, the marina where most fishing excursions begin. Palm Island’s Vice President Rich Brunette says he hopes the show will help bring more vacationers to the area.

“For somebody to call it a destination, I think absolutely these type of shows and what Mike does and bringing people here because they are going to repeat, they are going to be coming year after year,” said Brunette.

Slattery says his show is just the start of something bigger for Charlotte County. His team is already looking forward to filming seasons two and three of the program.
