Road rage sparks gunfire exchange in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Multiple agencies responded to a road rage incident on Sunday night that resulted in a gunfire exchange.

Fort Myers police say the incident started at Colonial Boulevard and Ortiz Avenue between two cars and ended on Colonial Blvd. at the I-75 on ramp around 10:30 p.m.

One of the vehicles, a Cadillac, came to a rest in the center median.

At least one witness told police a passenger in the Cadillac got out and started shooting at a green SUV.

Other witnesses say they saw multiple people running from the Cadillac.

According to the police report, the two men in the green SUV claim the driver of the Cadillac “brake checked” them, causing a rear-end collision. They both told police that’s when a man got out of the Cadillac and started shooting at them.

No one was hurt but the report says bullet holes were found in both cars.

One man who remained on scene told police he was the only one in the Cadillac and has no idea where the gunshots came from.

Police say they have no viable suspect information and none of the parties involved wish to press charges.
