3D tech used in Punta Gorda murder investigation

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Punta Gorda Police Department joined forces Saturday morning with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, in a new effort to solve the murder of 18 year old Kyle Farishian.

Deputies used 3-d mapping technology, to recreate the crime scene.
They completed a full 3-d scan, inside and outside of the 7-11 store where Farishian was shot and killed last month.

That store was later set on fire.

Investigators says this technology will provide them with very specific details from the original crime scene.

Authorities hope this map can help them identify a suspect.

“If you’re able to make that 3D model, and yo know that the heigh of the counter is 4 feet, you can then take those same camera angles and actually figure out the height of your suspect. How wide the persons stomach is or how wide their legs are, how big their head is,” said Chief Tom Lewis of the Punta Gorda Police Department.

Detectives say they most likely will not release the 3D photos, since they will be part of an active investigation.
