FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.- Lee County commissioners voted unanimously to defer any action on a large-scale proposed development project on Fort Myers Beach. The Grand Resorts plans for property along Estero Boulevard, near Times Square, includes hotels, along with shops, restaurants and a large parking garage. On Tuesday, commissioners were asked to allow county staff to work with the developer on getting permits, but they decided to postpone any action until they can get a better idea of the process for working on such a large-scale development. Several Fort Myers Beach residents attended the meeting and spoke about the project. Some said they felt it was being shoved down their throats, and they were disappointed they have not had any more time for public input until now. Some people said they are not against development on the beach, but this plan is too big for Fort Myers Beach and would ruin the island lifestyle they have come to enjoy.
