Lee Co. School District collects hundreds of toys for Salvation Army

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Lee County School District employees teamed up with the Salvation Army to provide Christmas presents to hundreds of kids through the Angel Tree program.

“We could easily say that there’s probably 600 to 700 items here,” said Major Cheryl Gilliam with the Salvation Army. “Every child that signed up with their parents, their names were put on an angel tag.”

The Salvation Army says school district employees took 200 tags, or angels, under their wings to help make Christmas brighter for everyone.

“Whatever the donor purchases for the individual angel, or individual child, that child will receive exactly what the donor intended for them,” said Gilliam.

People unloaded dozens of bikes, guitars, and skateboardsat the Salvation Army on Thursday.

“It brought tears to my eyes, because there are children in the world that will not have a smile during the season, but this might bring a smile to some of them,” said Jeanne Dozier with the Lee County School Board.

Friday, Dec. 11 is the last day the Salvation Army will accept toy donations. Visit www.salvationarmyflorida.org/fortmyers/angel-tree for more information.
