PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- A woman is facing grand theft charges for a robbery at a Punta Gorda Subway in August. Heidi L. Smith is currently in the Charlotte County Jail being held on a $27,500 bond. On Aug. 8, Punta Gorda Police say a woman entered the Subway located in the Colonial Promenade plaza on Tamiami Trail and demanded cash from the register. Authorities say the suspect told the cashier, “You will not be hurt, I have a dying kid, just give me the cash in the register and you can call the police as soon as I leave.” During the investigation, police identified Smith as the robbery suspect. She was arrested on Wednesday at her home.
