Community helps local charity after storage unit for donations floods

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- After a local charity’s storage space flooded with water, the organization Oma’s Heart went from fearing the worst, to now having more donations than ever.

“This is a very giving community and we really take care of each other,” said Audrey McFalls, founder of Oma’s Heart.

Every year the nonprofit provides hundreds of struggling families in Lee County with Christmas toys for children. This year’s giving event is less than two weeks away. Over the weekend, McFalls walked into the charity’s storage unit to find many of the toys ruined by water damage, after a pipe burst in a nearby store.

“That’s when I called in the troops and asked for help.”

In less than 24 hours, McFalls says she’s received donation after donation, getting calls from businesses and people who want to help. She says they will now have more toys than ever.

“What the community has done is incredible,” said McFalls.
