BONITA SPRINGS, Fla.- A Land O’Lakes man in possession of over $1 million worth of cloned credit cards was arrested during a traffic stop on Interstate 75 in Lee County.

On Wednesday around 3 a.m., a deputy patrolling I-75 near mile marker 116 pulled over 25-year-old Ruben Rodriguez De Roux for committing several traffic violations, including following another car too closely and making unsafe lane changes.

During the stop, the deputy’s K-9 partner detected the odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle. Authorities say Rodriguez De Roux also had a suspended drivers license.

A search of the vehicle revealed nearly 2 grams of marijuana and approximately 103 counterfeit cloned credit cards.

Officials say each credit card had the potential to make purchases up to $10,000.  The cloned cards had the magnetic strips re-encoded with credit card information from victims, who had their accounts compromised through skimming devices.

Rodriguez De Roux is now facing 103 felony counts of possession of a counterfeit credit card, one count of driving with a suspended license, and one count of possession of marijuana under 20 grams.
