ESTERO, Fla.- A man accused of crashing his car and shooting himself in a bizarre case of road rage turned himself in Wednesday morning after being released from the hospital.

On Sept. 16, authorities say a confrontation began near Constitution Boulevard and U.S. 41. between 25-year-old Alexander Evans and another driver.

The victim stated Evans had attempted to hit her car with his vehicle and pointed a handgun at her and the three teenagers in her car.

Evans then began heading down Corkscrew Road when he ended up crashing into the guardrail and somehow shot himself in his right leg. He was later transported to Lee Memorial Hospital.

Evans is now charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
