Charlotte Co. law enforcement increasing patrols for the holidays

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Charlotte County deputies and Punta Gorda police are stepping up patrols for the holidays.

Residents will see a lot more patrol cars on the roads as officials target places like, ATMs, banks, stores and parking lots. Law enforcement officers will be driving around in marked and unmarked cars.

“I suppose it’s a good idea, especially in the parking lots, but it doesn’t seem to be too dangerous in this area right now,” said resident Dave Dively.

“I do notice what I would consider a significant increase in police presence,” said Hugh Boggs.

Most residents say they think a heavier police presence will make them feel safer during the holiday season.

“I believe that’s a good thing, especially during the holiday season when the bad guys are out there looking to take advantage of the good guys,” said Boggs.

Authorities want to remind residents to be alert during the holidays. Don’t carry too much cash, never shop alone, and if someone sees anything suspicious, call police.
