Lee Co. to spend nearly $1M for Lehigh Acres road repairs

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- After years of neglect, nearly $1 million will go toward fixing some Lehigh Acres roads in need of major repairs.

Some roads are so bad, drivers say their cars are being damaged.

“Nothing but stones here,” said resident Linda Ledain, who’s lived on 45 Street West for five years.  “It shakes your car when you go down them.”

“It’s such an inconvenience that these roads are so rough,” said Parker Ward, who lives just a few streets over.

Ward says the roads are in such poor shape, they’ve cost her money.

“The damage that’s been done to our cars and all sorts of things like that. I think it will be a lot better if all the roads out here are paved,” said Ward.

There’s a chance she won’t have to pay for it. Residents can file a claim with the county and see if they’re eligible for financial assistance if a pothole damages your car.

Lee County is also planning to spend nearly $1 million to fix dozens of roads. The money to fund the project is coming from the gas tax.

It’s money homeowners, like Ward, say is well spent, “I’m really excited that it’s going to get done.”

Construction on the roads will take about a year.
