Metro Parkway Extension now open

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Drivers may have an easier commute now that a road project years in the making is complete.

The $24 million project to expand Metro Parkway started almost three years ago.

It expands Metro Parkway to six lanes and widened one-half mile of Evans Avenue just south of Hanson Street to three lanes northbound.

The new six-lane Metro Parkway bridge that crosses over the railroad tracks, 10 Mile Canal and Palm Avenue is complete. It connects Evans Avenue and Fowler Street and also includes lanes for southbound Fowler Street drivers who may chose to use Metro Parkway southbound.

LeeTran Boulevard connects you directly from Metro Parkway to Fowler.

There are also new sidewalks and bike paths to keep everyone safe.
