CAPE CORAL, Fla.- This week marks one year since the manager of a local TJ Maxx store was gunned down outside the business.

With no arrests in the case, the Cape Coral Police Department is pushing for more leads and people to come forward with new information about the death of 54-year-old Al Griffiths.

It was just before 9 p.m. on Nov. 18 when police say Griffiths was taking a break outside the store on Del Prado Boulevard, and was approached by someone who shot him multiple times before taking off. Detectives say they don’t believe it was a random crime, but are still trying to figure out the connection between the gunman Griffiths.

“I was devastated, he was just the nicest person in the world,” said Daniel Barker, who used to live next to Griffiths.

After a year without an arrest,  police want to turn their attention back to the victim- looking to talk to anyone who knew him at all.

“Still to this day, I have not heard anything about what possibly could’ve happened and why,” said Barker.

“For this to have happened, and us to not know who is responsible yet is surprising, and we’re hoping this information we are gathering will lead us to that person– the person responsible,” said Detective Alisha McDonald.

Authorities say they have received 250 tips and talked to about 500 people about the case, but still don’t know who killed the beloved store manager or why.

“We’ve looked into his work history, those that he’s worked with in the past, those that he’s encountered, customers, people in his life, his neighbors, his family,” said McDonald.

“For me, just as a friend, you know, I’d like to know that somebody’s gonna pay for this because he was a really good guy,” said Barker.

Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers will be putting up new flyers this week, showing new pictures of Griffiths and also reminding people of the $25,000 reward. If you have any information, call Cape Coral police or Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477).
