NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.- A couple who scammed a 99-year-old woman out of more than $11,000 is now behind bars.

Lee County deputies say Lisvany Becerra, 33, and Ashley Estrella, 24, offered to help trim the hedges outside Aldea Stoll’s home back in August.

After the work was complete, Stoll invited them inside her home while she wrote out a check for $40. Stoll didn’t realize the couple had stolen one of her checkbooks and forged 24 of her checks during a two-week period.

” I could kick myself for falling for that kind of thing. I’m 99 years old, I should have known better,” said Stoll.

Stoll says she knew something was wrong when her bank statement showed multiple checks that she didn’t write.

“I noticed after, a couple numbers, you know, how the checks are numbered and I wondered, ‘hey what happened to those checks?'”

Investigators caught Becerra on bank surveillance cameras and tellers were able to pick him out of a line up. The couple is now facing multiple charges including grand larceny of a victim 65 years of age or older.
