FORT MYERS, Fla.- Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson arrived in Southwest Florida on Wednesday as part of a nationwide book tour.

“I’m willing to sacrifice a little heat to see Ben Carson and have him autograph the book because I think he’s a real special person and it’s worth it,” said Smyrna Calciano.

People waited for hours to see the Republican front-runner and retired pediatric neurosurgeon, many tell WINK News they’ve been Carson supporters for years.

“I’ve been following Dr. Carson since the early 90s when he wrote his first book,” said Dean Hillestaed.

Others say they want to know more about the man who’s surging in the latest polls.

“I haven’t decided who I’m voting for, but I’m going to listen to what they say, how they handle situations and it’s not about spitting out things at the podium– look at their life histories, what do they believe in,” said Calciano.

Carson signed thousands of books at the Fort Myers Books-A-Million, then signed more than 2,0000 at the Naples Costo.
