NAPLES, Fla.- An 18-year-old East Naples man awaiting trial for attempted sexual battery has been charged in connection with a second attack.

Johan Herrera was originally arrested after attacking a woman in a parking lot located on U.S. 41 East back in August. Detectives say the victim was waiting for a friend when she was approached by a man who grabbed her, punched her in the face and attempted to sexually assault her.

Authorities linked Herrera to the crime via surveillance pictures and positive identification by the victim.

While behind bars, authorities say a DNA test matched Herrera to another sexual battery that took place on July 18. That victim was attacked from behind in a parking lot on Rattlesnake Hammock Road and sexually assaulted, according to Collier County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Detectives interviewed Herrera at the Naples Jail Center on Tuesday, and he confessed.
