Diesel leak at truck stop prompts environmental scare

Published: Updated:

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla.- Environmental crews spent much of Tuesday night cleaning up a diesel spill in North Fort Myers truck stop.

It happened at the Loves Truckstop on the 1700 block of Park 78 Drive.

Bayshore fire officials say the spill started after a truck trying to back into a parking space between two other semis hit one of the trucks, rupturing its fuel tank. Firefighters estimate about 120 gallons of diesel fuel leaked onto the ground.

Firefighters threw fuel-dry down to try and soak up some of the fuel and stop it from leaking into a nearby storm drain. They also alerted emergency management officials of the leak.

No one was injured and the Loves Truckstop remained fully open for business throughout the night.
