PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Runners and walkers, take a deep breath and get ready to run and walk for the Lung Cancer Research Councils Run/Walk 5K and Mile of Memories Walk this Saturday. The annual event helps raise money for lung cancer research and programs, helping treat and cure the largest cause of death in Southwest Florida. To date the run/walk has brought in more than $150,000 and contributing sponsors have helped raise even more money. Advance registration is $25 runners and walkers can choose three events based on their skill level, 5K run competitive, 5K run/walk non-competitive and “Mile of Memories” 1 mile memorial walk. Race day registration starts at 6:00 a.m. and races kick off after just after 8:00 a.m. if you can’t attend Saturdays race you can donate on-line or purchase a memorial sign for $25 to be displayed at the memorial walk.
