Police: Man steals SUV with boy still inside in Florida

MIAMI (AP) – Police say a 5-year-old boy is safe after a carjacker drove away with a sports utility vehicle as the child’s father was dropping off his siblings at a South Florida day care center.

According to police, the man jumped into SUV, which had been left running with the boy inside, on Monday morning. Police say the man then sped out of the parking lot at the Kiddie Academy in southwest Miami-Dade County.

The incident was captured on the day care center’s surveillance system.

The father became frantic when he realized the SUV was gone.

Police were called and found the stolen SUV with the boy still inside a few blocks away. The parents were reunited with the boy, who was unharmed.

Officers are still searching for the carjacker.
