MGN BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) – The 21-year-old woman who accused a recently acquitted former Boynton Beach police officer of raping her says she is pushing ahead with a lawsuit against the former officer and the city she says condoned his behavior. In a statement released by one of her attorneys Thursday, the Wellington woman says she’s both emotionally devastated and in fear for her safety now that 36-year-old Stephen Maiorino has been released from jail. A Palm Beach County jury found Maiorino not guilty Tuesday of armed sexual battery, armed kidnapping and unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior. The woman says her civil lawsuit against Maiorino and the City of Boynton Beach is not about money, but about holding Maiorino accountable for what she says he did. Maiorino’s attorneys say the sex was consensual.
