Cape Coral couple cuts electricity costs by installing solar panels

Published: Updated:

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- A couple is cutting costs in a big way with new solar panels now installed in their yard.

Loren Wenzel and his wife spoke exclusively to WINK News, as Advance Solar finished up installing the panels on Thursday.

“Our electric bill is $200 a month and I expect that to be practically gone,” Loren explained.

Advance Solar says the system took about two weeks to install. The company installs about 20 to 25 systems on average per year in Southwest Florida homes.

The upfront cost isn’t cheap. Advance Solar says the couple has spent an estimated $38,000. Wenzel says a tax credit will refund him some of that money.

“Essentially, I got this whole system that will pay for all of our electricity, practically speaking, for the price of a new car, which is about $26,000, after the tax credit,” explained Loren.

Still, Wenzel says he’s looking at this as an investment that he hopes will pay off.
