FORT MYERS, Fla.- Getting rid of your trash is getting even easier in parts of Lee County.

Residents in Lehigh Acres, Buckingham and Alva will have automated garbage collection starting Oct. 5., with same-day collection for all household waste, recyclables and yard waste.

Over 47,000 new wheeled garbage carts were delivered to homes over the past six weeks as part of the change.

“The new carts will be easier for residents to maneuver to the curb, easier for haulers to empty without injury and will present a uniform street side appearance,” said Pam Keyes, director of the Lee County Public Utilities Department.

Residents are asked to leave 3 feet between their garbage and recycle carts and any other items at the curb including mailboxes.

Anyone having a service issue is asked to call Progressive’s customer service at 239-368-2300 or Lee County Solid Waste at 239-533-8000.
