The FBI is warning anyone with student loan debt to watch for phone scams.

The FBI said the callers are spoofing the number to make it look like someone from the FBI is calling you. College students from universities in various states, including Georgia and Wisconsin, said the scammer pretend to be someone from the U.S. government or an FBI agent. The caller then claims you are delinquent on student loans or dues, taxes or even overdue parking tickets. Sometimes the caller will say you could be arrested or not graduate from school, if you refuse to pay the fees via MoneyGram.

The FBI will never call you directly requesting money, and make sure you do not give out your personal information to people you do not know.

If you get a call like this, file a complaint through the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.
