CLEWISTON, Fla.- Authorities are searching for the person who robbed and shot a cab driver, leaving him bleeding to death in a Clewiston parking lot.

Police say 52-year-old Mohammed Ansari picked up a rider going from Kendall in the Miami area to Fort Myers, but the driver never made it that far. According to authorities, the passenger robbed and then shot the Ansari in the leg before leaving him injured in the Sugarland Plaza, located off U.S. 27.

“There was a lot a lot of blood on the ground, on him, on the van, in the van so it was pretty bad,” said Shanan Johnson.

Johnson and her daughter were walking through the parking lot Saturday morning when they came across the horrific sight.

“I parked beside the van and noticed there was a body on the ground with blood covered all over him.”

She says the cab driver was alive but could barely move, she immediately called 911.

Johnson says she heard police trying to ask Ansari who shot him and why, but he wouldn’t answer. He later died from his injuries.

No one is in custody as police continue investigating.
