Dispose of unused drugs safely on National Drug Take-Back Day

Published: Updated:

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Residents can drop off unused or expired medications at sheriff’s offices across Southwest Florida Saturday.

This is the 10th year National Drug Take-Back Day has been looking to give you a safe way to dispose of the medications.

Officials say medications should never be thrown away in the trash, or washed down the drain.  Programs like this offer a safe and secure way to get rid of the unwanted medications.

All medications should be in a sealed container, and they can be either prescription or over the counter.  Needles and other sharp items are not allowed.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office will take back any medications Monday through Friday during normal business hours.
