FORT MYERS, Fla. – Publix stores across Lee County are making it easy for shoppers to give back to the community. For seven years, the grocery chain has been partnering with LeeTran for the Fill our Fleet food drive benefitting the Harry Chapin Food Bank. Joyce Jacobs says the food bank feeds 30,000 families a month. She says donations slow down during the summer months, so this Sunday’s food drive is crucial. Publix has shelves across their stores, with food designated for the drive. Shoppers can purchase those specific items and drop them off at a LeeTran bus in the Publix parking lot. There are also packaged bags of food shoppers can purchase. In years past, the food for the drive was collected over a three week period, but this year it has been consolidated into a single day.
