2 former state employees busted for stealing

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. – Two former state employee were busted for stealing money meant for a charity.

Glen Nickell and John Weatherholt both worked for Florida Fish and Wildlife at the Cecil M. Webb shooting range in Punta Gorda.

Nickell and Weatherholt face charges for recycling state owned brass and pocketing the cash when the money should have been used to fund the Florida Youth Hunting program.

“It’s a disaster because just like any other state, Florida has plenty of needy people and that money is probably going to a good source. So for them to take it, is just incomprehensible,” said Anthony Condurso, a frequent shooter at the shooting range.

The arrests have sparked changes at the range.

“When you come down here, you are going to notice an immediate change from what they were accustomed to seeing, and our range will be safe and clean at all times,” said manager Otto Knollhoff.
