Captiva triathlon pushes athletes to the limit

CAPTIVA, Fla. – Athletes took to the beach Sunday morning to compete in the 5th annual Sam Galloway Captiva Triathlon.  The course includes a quarter mile swim, 10 mile bike ride, and a 5K run.

The course pushes athletes to the limit, and can prove to be difficult at times. The Gulf of Mexico had choppy waves that athletes were not anticipating, and one biker crashed on the course.

The winner was Ross Linehan who passed the finish line at 50 minutes and 51 seconds.

The event raises money for Community Cooperative which helps fight hunger throughout Southwest Florida.

“One in six people in Lee County has the potential to go to bed hungry every single night,” said Tracey Galloway, CEO of Community Cooperative. “Events like this are fabulous for us to have promote the advocacy of what we do.”
