Man arrested in deadly Cape Coral July 4 crash

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Police have arrested a Rhode Island man for a deadly crash more than two months ago.

The crash happened at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and Skyline Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. on July 4.

Witnesses told police a Kia Forte made a left turn into the intersection and drove right into a Chevrolet Impala that was going about 50 miles per hour. The driver of the Kia, 36-year-old Montaigu Moselle, was arrested  in Pawtucket, Rhode Island Saturday on multiple charges, including two counts of DUI manslaughter. Police said Moselle’s blood alcohol level was .214 at the time of the crash.

There were four people in the Impala. Paul Ortiz, 84, from South Carolina died the following day. Joan Ortiz, 78, also from South Carolina, died nearly two weeks later. Two others in the car were injured.

Moselle was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

At this time, Moselle is still in jail in Rhode Island. He will be extradited back to Southwest Florida.
