FORT MYERS, Fla.- A man is under arrest for stalking a teenager as she walked to her bus stop.

Rodney Dickerson, 41, is facing charges of aggravated stalking for the attempted abduction that police say happened on Wednesday.

Authorities say the 14-year-old victim called her mother crying while on her bus ride to school, saying someone she recognized from the neighborhood followed her on the way to the bus stop.

According to officials, Dickerson followed the victim as she walked from her home to the bus stop a few blocks away, asking the teen multiple times to come towards him.

When the victim ignored him, police say Dickerson began enticing the victim by claiming to know her mother and continued harassing and following her. The 14-year-old was able to get away from Dickerson when the school bus arrived.

“In this instance the victim did the right thing. She ignored the suspect and called for help. If you haven’t had the stranger danger talk with your child lately, now would be a good time,” said FMPD Lt. Victor Medico.
