COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – A hit-and-run crash involving several vehicles shut down all lanes of Interstate 75 southbound at mile marker 111 just after 6 a.m.

Florida Highway Patrol says the crash was a hit and run, however, several vehicles including one semi-truck stayed on scene for investigators. At least two vehicles had to be towed away from the scene due to severe damage.

FHP reports that a vehicle traveling southbound in the outside lane, hydroplaned and spun in a clockwise direction hitting another vehicle in the center lane causing the crash. The driver of the vehicle that hydroplaned, Joseph Ankrom of Naples, was cited for careless driving.

After that crash three other vehicles, including a semi trailer approaching the congested traffic were hit. An approaching driver to the second group of vehicles failed to stop in time, crashing into the rear of one of the vehicles stopped in traffic pushing it forward into another vehicle. That driver fled the scene South on I-75.

The driver from one of the vehicles hit was transported to North Collier Hospital. All lanes of I-75 southbound re-opened just before 8 a.m.
