Woman charged with killing husband in western North Carolina

MURPHY, N.C. (AP) – A Florida woman has been charged with shooting and killing her husband at their vacation home in western North Carolina.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (http://avlne.ws/1LQZZZf) that 53-year-old Maria Brickman of Fort Myers, Florida, is charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Cherokee County Sheriff Derrick Palmer said officers were called to a home west of Murphy for a domestic dispute last week. Officers found 70-year-old Robert Jon Brickman suffered from a gunshot wound.

Brickman was taken to a hospital in Tennessee where he died the next day.

The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the case. Maria Brickman is being held in the Cherokee County jail. It was not clear if she has an attorney.
