Courtesy News-Press LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Sanibel Mayor, Kevin Ruane, announces that he is suspending his candidacy for Lee County Commissioner in District 1 citing a “recent serious health issue with a family member”. His full letter is below. September 1, 2015 Dear Friends: First of all, I would like to thank you for your support. My campaign for Lee County Commissioner has been an extraordinary experience. We are so lucky to be able to live in such a wonderful community and the campaign has certainly confirmed that. However, it is with a heavy heart that I have decided to suspend my candidacy effective immediately. Due to a recent serious health issue with a family member, I am unable to meet the obligations of the campaign at this time. I did not come to this decision lightly, but as many of you know my family is always my primary responsibility and will continue to be. I plan to continue on as mayor of Sanibel and look forward to seeing many of you over the coming months. Also, please know that I will be returning all of my campaign contributions. Finally, I want to thank all of you again for your support and encouragement during the campaign. Sincerely, –
