PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- A Charlotte County deputy is receiving praise for aiding a driver in distress.

DFC Ken Hill was sent to check out a disabled vehicle in the area of U.S. 41 and Jones Loop Road back on August 11. When he arrived, Hill found that the driver was handicapped, so he along with other deputies helped push the car off the roadway.

Authorities say Hill learned the driver didn’t have anyone he could call for help, so he checked the car and determined it most likely needed a new battery. The driver also did not have any money on him, so Hill went to the nearby Wal-Mart and bought a battery for the man with his own money.

With help from another citizen, they changed out the battery and the man was on his way.

Charlotte County authorities say the man who helped with the battery change called in to say that “DFC Ken Hill is an extraordinary person” and the driver sent in a thank you letter that ended with “God bless the County of Charlotte, especially Ken Hill.”
