Another road project soon to begin on Fort Myers Beach

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla,.- Another construction project is about to kick off on Fort Myers Beach. Last month, traffic came to a crawl as crews started work replacing water lines. Now, a plan is in the works to spruce up Estero Boulevard. Beach leaders hope this project is smoother for drivers.

This sight of road construction is nothing new for business owner and resident Tree Andre, in fact, she welcomes it.

“It’s been on the books for a long, long time. We need to say thank you that its now going on,” said Andre.

In September, the first segment of the Estero Blvd. redevelopment project is set to break ground. The plan includes widening Estero Boulevard from Crescent Street to Lovers Lane, that’s the area from the Matanzas Pass Bridge, south about one mile. Crews will also install sidewalks, a bike path, and better lightning. Lee County Commissioner Larry Kiker tells WINK News traffic should not be as bad as the water line project that started last month.

“There is going to be two lanes open all the time, so the problems we had on the first project the town had experienced, won’t be there,” said Kiker.
