MIAMI (AP) – The Miami-Dade school district has reached a tentative contract agreement with its teachers.

Nearly 30,000 employees are covered by the contract with the United Teachers of Dade union.

Under the deal announced Friday, teachers will receive an average raise of 3 percent, with variations depending on their step in the salary chart.

The Miami Herald reports teachers will also have health care costs that are equal or lower than last year, along with upgraded prescription benefits.

The agreement still requires a vote by union members and approval by the school board. It comes just ahead of Monday’s first day of school.
