New automated trash collection coming to Lehigh Acres

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla.- A new automated trash collection system is coming to Lehigh Acres and other parts of East Lee County including Alva and Buckingham.

47,000 homes will receive new 95-gallon trash cans for the new system. The county will begin delivering the trash cans on Monday, but the new collection system won’t take effect until October 5. If that can is too large for you, you can request a smaller one from the county.

The $300,000 trucks and $3 million in trash cans were all purchased by the company, Progressive Waste Solutions so it comes at no cost to tax payers.

County leaders say this system is safer, more efficient, and leaves less opportunity for trash to litter the streets in Lehigh Acres.

The can also had a lid so it won’t fill with water and animals will be less likely to get into it.

Recycling, yard waste, and household trash will now be collected all in one day.
