NAPLES, Fla.- The annual New Year’s Eve fireworks show at the Naples Pier may not happen this year because of a lack of funding.

WINK News has learned the major sponsor of the show for the past 12 years will not be contributing this year.

ASG usually pays the cost of the fireworks which is about $26,500, but the city does not expect the company to pay this year.

The total cost is an additional $12,000-$15,000 for police, fire, barricades and other safety measures.

At a workshop Monday, council declined to put $40,000 in the budget to cover the cost of the fireworks display. City leaders will talk to Collier County government officials to see if the county would be willing to contribute to the cost.
