GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla.- A man who was illegally picking berries has been found after an intense four hour search in the woods. He was found dehydrated and sitting on a sidewalk 5 miles from his friend. Collier County deputies drove the man to his friend where they loaded up the car and took off. Deputies arrived on scene after a call for a suspicious man. While questioning the man, he told deputies he and a friend went into the woods to pick palmetto berries. He says they took off running and lost each other after they heard four gun shots nearby. It sparked a 4-hour search using ATVs, K-9 and a helicopter. The men were not arrested for trespassing; the owner didn’t mind the men were picking berries on her property.
