NAPLES, Fla. – The captain of Sweet Liberty has been released from the hospital after his boat was struck by lightning with 16 other people on board. His mother, who works at the dock, says the lightning came out of no where. Captain Shane had tried to take the boat out of harms way but lightning hit the mast and then traveled into the boom where he was at the helm holding the steering wheel with his left hand. Lightning went through the left side of his body and he was taken to the hospital. He has burns on his hand from where the lightning exited. His mother says he doesn’t remember anything after it happened. They say it’s a miracle he is back home this evening. The boat has some damage to the controls and electronics. Luckily, none of the other 16 passengers on board were injured.
