Cape Coral middle school wins new fitness center

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Three Florida schools will get a brand new fitness center, including Caloosa Middle School in Cape Coral. The school won the $100,000 facility through a contest.

One of the requirements was to submit a video to the National Foundation of Governors’ Fitness Council, a private company that sponsored the contest.

“It took a lot of work for us to put together,” said physical education teacher Melissa Taylor. “I had to pull students for the video for two weeks.”

The winner would get the state-of-the-art fitness center at no cost to taxpayers.

“Well, we know that the research shows that children who are active, physically active and physically in shape, become not only lifelong learners, but they know that health and wellness is important to them for the rest of their lives as well,” said Caloosa Middle School principal Ann Cole.

The middle school recently switched to the Chrome tablets for each student, so they would no longer need their computer room; it all seemed too perfect of a fit.

Wednesday, crews continued to take down what the school would no longer need to make room for the new equipment. The empty space will hold 50 workout machines worth roughly $100,000, compliments of the Governors’ Fitness Council and generous donors.

“It’s going to be fabulous,” Taylor said, “and they’re putting in interactive video games, and Dance Revolution and stuff is going to be in there as well.

Kids and teachers will get to use the facility.
