Lely Football Builds on Historic Year

Trojans hope to win back-to-back district titles.

Last season, the Lely High School football team won a district title for the first time in 17 years.

This season, they hope to build on that, using the same mindset they used last season.

“Confidence is huge,” said Senior cornerback Jean Dossous. “It’s a big part of this team. That’s what built this team. No one really had confidence in us, and we had confidence in ourselves.”

The Trojans lost workhorse running back Tupac Isme, who graduated, after rushing for more than 1,200 yards last season.

All eyes will be on Golden Gate-transfer Calerb D’Haiti, who takes over the starting running back job in an offense that ran the ball more than 80 percent of the time.

Lely kicks off the preseason August 21st at Island Coast, then starts the regular season August 28th against Gulf Coast.
