Charlotte County fisherman caught poaching snook

EL JOBEAN, Fla.- A Charlotte County fisherman landed in jail after catching more than he could handle.

Raymond Green was arrested Sunday near the El Jobean fishing pier when a deputy found a snook flopping around the bed of his truck.

The deputy said he could hear “the sound of fish out of water.”

Green is facing charges of taking a snook out of season and resisting arrest. A bait and tackle store owner says he’s outraged.

“Taking time to put a fish back in good condition leaves it for the kids who are coming up after us. It’s not about the rules and the laws and the rest of that stuff,” said Frank Hommema, who owns Fishin’ Frank’s Bait & Tackle.

The deputy was not able to save the fish after finding it flopping around in the back of the truck. Snook season doesn’t open until September 1.
