Vandalism covered at Marco Island home of dentist

MARCO ISLAND, Fla.- The spray paint that covered the garage door of the Minnesota dentist accused of killing Cecil the lion is no longer there.

Earlier this week, Walter Palmer’s vacation home was vandalized with the words “lion killer.” Palmer is at the center of an international poaching scandal.

Palmer’s housekeeper spent about six hours in the 90-degree heat Friday cleaning up the mess left behind.

“Once I heard there was graffiti on the door, it immediately went to my heart that I was supposed to paint it over but I had to wait for the investigation to be over first,” she said. “So, now I’m here making it look all pretty again.”

The housekeeper, who did not want to be identified, said she has been cleaning Palmer’s vacation home for the past year. She hopes covering up the markings will deter further attention to the home and the neighborhood.

“I think that it’s worse than anything he could have done because this is human on human.”

The spray paint, pigs feet and animal crackers that were left in cups were discovered Tuesday morning. Since then, the area has attracted many onlookers.

“First of all, we need to stop the ‘looky-loos’ from coming around. Don’t give them anything to look at, then they have no reason to be here. The only people they’re really hurting are the neighbors, because the Palmers are not here and they’re not coming here anytime soon.”

Since the vandalism happened, armed guards are now watching over the property, while cameras and no trespassing signs have been placed.

The housekeeper warns anyone who tries to mess with the home will be arrested.

“Unless you want to be part of the Collier County hotel, I’d stay away.”

Police continue to investigate the vandalism and patrol the area.
