FORT MYERS, Fla.- Airplane passengers on their way to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) received a big scare when their plane was forced to make an emergency landing.

Shortly after taking off from the Chicago O’Hare International Airport, the United Airlines flight pilot alerted passengers he needed to make a landing after striking a group of birds at the end of the runway.

The pilot turned the plane around to return to the Chicago airport after about 15 minutes.

With the plane back on the ground, airport employees worked to clean the front portion of the plane’s fuselage while passengers waited to board once again.
