FORT MYERS, Fla.- The oldest McDonald’s location in Southwest Florida is being torn down Tuesday, and a new one will go up in its place. The location on Cleveland Avenue and Hill Avenue was the first in our area, and opened in 1959. It was rebuilt in 1978, and now will undergo another complete renovation on the property. Deana Homsi and her family own the fast food restaurant, along with five others in Fort Myers. She says it’s exciting to get ready for the new restaurant, which will have several new energy efficient features, but this location also has a lot of history. It used to be known as ‘the end of town’ she says, and many customers have shared their memories from this location. The restaurant will hire an additional 25 to 30 people when it reopens by the end of October.
