FORT MYERS, Fla.- A 12-year-old Cypress Lake Middle School student is recovering in the hospital after she was shot three times while outside her aunt’s home.

Family members says the shots broke Luxury Vance’s arm. S

Janie Addison heard the gunfire early Sunday morning, “I ducked when I heard the shots.”

Addison lives down the street from Vance’s aunt on the 1800 block of Fountain Street. The shooting happened there just after midnight Sunday.

The 12-year-old was hanging outside with family when someone pulled up and started shooting.

“It’s horrifying, it’s terrible, it’s really bad,” said Addison. “It’s a sound I don’t ever want to hear again.”

Police say Vance was not the target.

“She walked out, her and her cousins, into gunfire. A guy jumping out the car, shooting, shooting in the yard,” said Davis.

Family says Vance was shot twice in the back and once in the arm. She is in good condition, recovering at HealthPark Medical Center.

Luxury Vance played basketball for Cypress Lake Middle School. Her family is scared her dream of playing the sport is over.

“I don’t know if she’ll use her arm again. Let’s give the kids a chance!” said  Shirley Lias.

In an emotional plea, Vance’s grandmother is begging anyone who knows something to talk to police.

“The thing they say out here in ‘Dunbar is snitches is finding ditches.’ Well I want you to know, I’m a snitch. I want to find out who shot my granddaughter,” said Lias.

Police say they are working tirelessly to solve this crime. If you have any information, call the Fort Myers Police Department at 239-321-7700 or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 800-780- TIPS (8477).
