DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Authorities are investigating after the deaths of two toddlers pulled from a backyard swimming pool in Daytona Beach.

Volusia County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the home Thursday morning after the children were found in the pool.

Sgt. Pat Thoman tells The Daytona Beach News-Journal that 1-year-old Ashton Jenkins and 2-year-old Shana Cavanaugh died at separate hospitals.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Gary Davidson says there were two adults and three children at the home when authorities were called to the house.

Health officials say 24 toddlers drowned in Volusia County from 2003 through 2014. The vast majority drowned in swimming pools.
