COOPER CITY, Fla. (AP) – A South Florida 14-year-old boy faces a manslaughter charge after authorities say his friend, also 14, died while they were playing with a gun.

The shooting happened Thursday afternoon at the suspect’s Cooper City home. Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responding to a call about shots fired found the victim’s body in the garage and a gun nearby.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Dani Moschella says a SWAT team cleared the house and declared the teen dead at the scene. The victim’s name has not been released.

Detectives spent hours talking with the suspect and the victim’s 16-year-old brother.

Moschella says the 14-year-old was arrested and will face one count of manslaughter with a firearm. The Associated Press does not identify juveniles charge with crimes.

Investigators have not said who owned the gun.
